Befriending Naya Toolbox

Had a good playtest of my new deck @ Titan Hobby Shop, Libis. 🙂
FNM was fun! 😀

Game results, highlights and boo-boos to follow.

Deck List:

Round 1: WIN
vs Boros: 2 – 1

Game 1:
3 Goblin Guides were attacking me, one with Sword of Feast and Famine. GG.
Since all of his lands were Mountains, I thought it was a Goblin beatdown.

Game 2:
+ 2 Korr Firewalker
+ 1 Baneslayer Angel
Misplay: Baneslayer did not attack, he only had Korr Firewalker and Goblin Guide.
Psyched: I know he was not holding a removal when I played Kor Skyfisher. On his turn, he didn’t attack with the guide. So I equipped Sword of Body and Mind to Skyfisher and attacked. And as I played Baneslayer, he conceded.

Game 3:
Long match. Baneslayer again for the win. 😀

Round 2: WIN
vs RUG: 2 – 1

Game 1: He bolted my second-turn Fauna Shaman so I played another Fauna on my third turn.
4th, discarded Vengevine, fetched Vengevine.
5th, landdropped, played Precursor Golem
6th, played Hero of Oxid Ridge and another Fauna Shaman, triggering Vengevine’s ability to return in the battlefield. Swing! He was down to 17 by then and whichever he blocks, he’ll still lose.

Game 2: Revenge of his Precurson Golem
I only had one Arc Trail, not enough to kill those pesky artifacts. I conceded. Mana drought, too. 🙁

Game 3: Long match!
Arc Trailed his Lotus Cobra.
Journeyed his Inferno Titan.
My Squadron Hawk had Sword of Body and Mind, he played Frost Titan, and targeted that Hawk not to untap. I just played more Hawks on my turn plus Vengevine. He played Precursor Golem and I did the same on my turn. Got another sword – Sword of Feast and Famine and my flyers became more evasive. When we were called out for the last 5 turns, he scooped his cards on turn 2. GG.

Round 3: LOSS
vs Vampires: 0 – 2

The usual combo I hate: Bloodghast, Viscera Seer, Kalastria Highborn!

Round 4: WIN
vs my boyfriend’s UB Infect: Scripted 2 – 0

He really loves me. Hehe. 🙂

Friday Night Magic @ Titan Hobby Shop

It was my first time playing at Titan Hobby Shop, Libis branch. Actually, this shop is fairly new. 🙂 Love the ambiance, love the experience! But because I was sick, aircon’s settings made me shiver. 🙁

Wall of Omens - March FNM Card

Yay! Got one from Titan!

Deck: GW Quest (Modified after Game Day… deck list to follow)

Round 1: WIN
Monored : 2 – 0

I’m not sure of its build. All I know is that it was red.

MVP: Bonehoard!

Thanks to 7/7 black Germ token. Who cares about Pyroclasms and Slagstorms when Stoneforge Mystic can fetch it for me. Lol. Yup, not Sword of Body and Mind or Sword of Feast of Famine.

Round 2: LOSS
Caw-Blade: 1 – 2

Epic game three. Battle of top decks!
His Journey to Nowhere > My Linvala, Keeper of Silence
My War Priest of Thune > His Journey to Nowhere
Topdecked Kor Skyfisher, return War Priest of Thune. Casted on my next turn, Linvala’s free!
Got 3 lands only for 2 of them were Tectonic Edge-d. 🙁
His topdeck? Day of Judgement!

When I finally had 5 lands, I topdecked Baneslayer Angel. Found the perfect answer for his flying Celestial Collonade. Oopsie, he got Sword of Body and Mind, making it 6/6 vigilance, Pro-Green and Blue. The most that my Baneslayer could do is gain life for me. And Vengevine became literally “vegetable” when SOBM kept being equipped from Stoneforge Mystic to Wolf tokens, back and forth. It even came to a point that I only had 13 cards in my library, with 3 Vengevines in my graveyard. All I was asking is a Kor Skyfisher to zero his then down-to-one life total. No good, got Leonin Relic-Warden.

The Misplay (as thought by Pros watching): I should’ve not blocked Celestial Collonade with Squadron Hawk. Baneslayer + Squadron Hawk on my turn would be 6 damage. Enough to beat him.

The Lame Excuse: There’s two open mana, opponent had 2 cards on his hand. My only ally was Baneslayer, not sure if he was holding Oust or Condemn.

The Lesson: Don’t be afraid to take damage. Take the risk.
When playing against control, it’s always DO or DIE! I better give my best shot next time! Whew! Pressure!

The BIG Question: a.k.a. my serious MTG question How much risk is calculated risk?

Round 3: WIN
Caw-Blade: 2 – 0

Just my luck!
Play first.
Game 1. Kept opening hand:
Quest for the Holy Relic
Squadron Hawk

Turn 1. Plains, Quest for the Holy Relic, Memnite.
One quest counter.
He played Preordain on his turn.
My turn, draw Glint Hawk. (And that’s what I wished for!)
Memnite+Memnite+Glint Hawk+Memnite = 5 quest counters, cracked to Argentum Armor, equipped to first Memnite.
Attacked! Destroyed Islands, dealt 7 damage to opponent. GG.

Game 2:
Kept opening hand:
Squadron Hawk
Sword of Body and Mind
Stoneforge Mystic

Played Squadron Hawk on my turn 2, searched and revealed 3 more. Discard phase, goodbye 2 Vengevine.
Drew Sunpetal Grove prior to that. 🙂
Next draw, Memnite.
Squadron Hawk + Memnite = Hello 2 Vengevine! They even feasted on Gideon Jura’s macho-ness. They love hunks! (Even Jaces during playtest. Hehe.)
And just when opponent had 6 lands to activate Celestial Collonade on my turn as blocker, I topdecked Tectonic Edge. Game over!

Finished 2 – 1. 3rd placer among 8 players. Just started with a small group tonight, as I’ve said, this is Titan’s new branch.

Got 1 MBS booster pack and March FNM card. Not so impressive rare – Myr Welder! >.<

Once again, I had fun. Lovely first experience. Worth the wait! 🙂

Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas from Booster Pack

It was my lucky day!

I got Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas from booster packs. Okay, we bought 7 booster packs with two mythic rares: Sword of Feast and Famine and Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas together with some notable rares such as Mirran Crusader and and Phyrexian Revoker. I can’t remember the others, though they are not totally crap rares.

Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas

Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas from booster trip

My boyfriend and I joined FNM at Mike’s MTG shop in Asturias Street near UST. We both finished 1-2 after 3 rounds since there were only ten players. Top 3 got the February FNM card and packs, but because it was my lucky day, I also won one booster pack after the die roll a.k.a raffle draw. 🙂

And there goes our booster trip… We now have 5 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas!!! Got one now and we have an existing set:

Set of Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas

Set of Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas

So happy!

FNM Results:

Valakut: 1 – 2

I hate how it ramps!

Monoblack Infect: 2 – 1

Thanks to my SB: Devout Lightcaster.
His Phyrexian Crusader gave me a headache, for not so long though.

Monogreen Elves: 1 – 2

Game 3 isn’t fair. Lol. My Stirring Wildwood was destroyed by Acidic Slime leaving me with a Forest and Tectonic Edge. Screwed!

My misplay: Maybe, I should have Journey to Nowhere-ed his Elvish Archdruid instead of Fauna Shaman. He should not have accelerated his mana to cast Acidic Slime…

My decklist is here, with modified sideboards.

Phyrexian Revoker is waaayyyy different from Pithing Needle! I learned it after the tournament. Call it offline rulings. It’s so kind of him (the judge) to text me and apologized for his mistake during the FNM. I casted Phyrexian Revoker and named Overgrown Battlement (there’s one in play… I was playing my GW Quest against Valakut) but was told that it won’t work because I’m trying to shutdown the mana abilities. Then my opponent casted another Overgrown Battlement ramping to Primeval Titan, fetching Valakuts and it was over in the next turn. 🙁 I lost. It shouldn’t be that way if I’ve been smarter to know the difference between Phyrexian Revoker and Pithing Needle. The judge made the wrong rulings, I should have made an appeal… But it’s okay. It’s just a simple game of cards, fun and exciting, the usual FNM with new faces of MTG players. It was our first time playing in that magic shop and I enjoyed it. It’s worth remembering… one, because of Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas, and two, because of Phyrexian Revoker and Pithing Needle.
